{Presentation2005.jpg} Presentation of the Driftwood Trophy at Grafham in 2005.
The trophy is a piece of driftwood with two brass windsurfing figures on top. It was fashioned by Chris Addison (St Johns 2003, but later also at Oxford) and first presented in 2005 - the year that Oxford, captained by ex-Cambridge windsurfer Sandy Douglas, ended a run of 16 Cambridge victories. The trophy replaced the Coppa YC, San Remo Cup - an old CUCrC trophy won in the 1930's that was re-purposed for the Windsurfing Varsity Match, but lost in the late 1990's. In 2013 the 'Driftwood Trophy' was re-named the Paul Cox Windsurfing (Varsity) Trophy in memory of Paul Cox who sailed for Oxford in the 2005 match, but died unexpectedly a few years after going down.
In 2016 the Jubilee Tankard, instituted in 1955 for Saturday dinghy fleet racing, was repurposed for the Varsity Match Second Strings - with Cambridge being the first holders.

So, what's this windsurf thing all about?
Well, we a select bunch of people who have a common theme - we all love it. More than others. Less cryptically, however, we are the windsurfing section of the Cambridge University Cruising Club (CUCrC). Our windsurfing section is a major part of the CUCrC, so we are a force to be reckoned with, both on the water and off it.

Off the water, we are even stronger. No-one we know parties quite as hard as us. We view the social side of windsurfing just as importantly as the sailing side, as it brings the Club together and makes everything more fun.
BUT I've never windsurfed before. How can I take part?
    ...
Yes. We have several keen wave-sailors who are never afraid to break a few bits of kit in the search for a new move. But if you know how to forward loop, then can you teach me? Seriously, however, we do encourage experienced sailors to help with the teaching of the beginners - it's good for a laugh and gives you something to do when it's not windy.
Hang on - you're kidding me. There's no water near Cambridge is there?
    ...
    35 minutes drive away, where
Do you just windsurf all the time and have no parties?
What! I can't believe you're asking. We have the most legendary pub evenings known to mankind. As well as swaps and curries, there's the great times we have when we have a weekend away with the other universities.
    ...
Okay then, I'm hooked. How do I join?
The simplest way is to come and meet us at the Freshers Fair in Kelsey Kerridge sports centre. We'll be the people eating pizza, drinking beer and accosting all the good looking girls/blokes - underneath the red CUCrC burgee. We'll give you lots of unbiased information (hmmm…) and put you on our email lists.

Otherwise use this online form (opens in a new window) to put yourself on our mailing list, or sign up on the Club's membership management website (opens in a new window).
You're putting questions in my mouth. How can I ask something else?

    Welcome to Cambridge University Windsurfing
(SeeSee our Facebook Group (opens in a new window) for all the latest!)latest!
    Who are we
Welcome! We're a group of people who love to windsurf, and try to do so at almost any opportunity, rain or shine, wintry mornings or sunny afternoons (we try to go for the second option but aren't unknown to go out in the first). We are a strong and active section of the Cambridge University Cruising Club (CUCrC) and have had Half Blue status since 1996.
